LIMA — According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, a major fire combined with horrendous freezing, windy conditions has left a Lima family without a home.
Brave firefighters and first responders fought through the bitter cold and high winds to keep the fire contained. According to Sgt. Michael Dougherty, maintaining control of the fire was incredibly challenging due to a lack of fire hydrants.
Livingston County Emergency Management Coordinator Kevin Niedermaier and the fire investigation team believe the fire was started in a vehicle that was near the residence which then caught the house on fire.
Responding to the scene was Lima Fire Department, Deputy Paul Ricotta, Deputy Mike Williams, Inv. Jeff Wiedrick, and Sgt. Michael Dougherty. Additional fire units were called in to assist.
No one was injured in the fire, the house sustained major damage and the Red Cross was called in to assist the 4 residents.
Sgt. Michael Dougherty would like to remind Livingston County residents to thank your local fire departments for their dedication and valor in working in such horrendous conditions.
