LIVONIA – A fire destroyed a home on Commercial Street Saturday evening, and covered part of the village in thick gray smoke.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the blaze, but the house is a total loss, with flames at times visible both up and downstairs, near the roof, and on the porch, which still had Christmas lights and icicles hanging from it.
At times, the smoke was thick enough to completely obscure view on scene.
The fire started at approximately 10 p.m.
Firefighters battled the flames in clear, breezy, 6 degree weather, and were careful to spread salt under their feet on Commercial Street so water from their hoses wouldn’t freeze into dangerous ice.
Firefighters with Livonia, East Avon, Geneseo, Lakeville, Hemlock, and Richmond responded to the scene, alongside Livonia Ambulance. Livingston County Deputy Sheriffs were also on scene to investigate.
