Fire Damages Mount Morris Police Chief’s ‘Boarding House’

MOUNT MORRIS — A fire damaged a structure on Damonsville Street Friday night.

Ken Mignemi, Mount Morris Police Chief and owner of the property, said that the house is repairable.

“There was a lot of water damage,” said Mignemi. “Everything is repairable.”

A passerby said that there was no obvious exterior damage and it did not even look like there had been a fire at the house.

Mignemi said that the fire was electrical in nature.

Three tenants are being assisted by the Red Cross while repairs are underway.

This is the house at 22 1/2 Damonsville Street that the Mount Morris Village Board, at the advice of an independent code enforcement officer not affiliated with the Village, served an order to remedy for non-compliance with local zoning.

Mignemi and property co-owner Joe Zambito approached the Mount Morris Zoning Board of Appeals, saying that they did not believe they were doing anything wrong but ‘will obviously comply once we have our answer from the ZBA.’
