CALEDONIA — On Tuesday a helicopter enroute to LeRoy landed in a Caledonia farm field in search of gas.
According to the tail registry with the FAA the helicopter is a Rotorcraft R44 II powered by a Lycoming engine. Fortunately for the pilots the neighboring farm house had non-ethanol gas.
According to the helpful residents the pilots stated that wind currents burned up more fuel than expected and wanted to find gas ‘just to be safe’.
One of the aircrew, Michael Campbell, made aviation fame in 2013 when he miraculously safely landed a touring helicopter in the Hudson River, saving everyone.
A representative of Fly Buffalo NY, who operates the helicopter, declined to comment on the matter.
