Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a West Sparta resident on felony charges following an investigation.
On July 7th, 2022 at about 4:00pm Deputy Luke Detrick of the Patrol Division began an investigation after receiving a call about a vehicle possibly using fictitious license plates. The investigation alleges that Serena L. Murphy, age 52 of West Sparta, was operating a vehicle that had fictitious NYS Dealer Plates.
Murphy was arrested and charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, as well as numerous violations of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Murphy was transported and turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing. The District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regards to bail due to the felony level charges. It was recommended that Murphy be released as the offenses did not qualify for bail under the New York State Justice Reform Act. As a result, Murphy was issued on an appearance ticket with a future court date provided and Deputies set her free.
