On December 1, 2020, at approximately 10:30 a.m., New York State Police responded to the NYS Thruway, between the Exit 43 westbound off-ramp and on-ramp, in the town of Manchester, Ontario County, for a fatal commercial vehicle accident.
A 2016 Freightliner tractor (no trailer) was originally eastbound on the thruway and for unknown reasons drifted through the center median and into the westbound lanes. The truck drove the wrong way onto the westbound on-ramp and then into an adjacent grassy area, striking a tree head-on. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The 34 year-old driver, who is from out of state, was trapped in the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. State Police were assisted at the crash by Manchester Fire, Shortsville Ambulance, Finger Lakes Ambulance, Farmington Service and the NYS Thruway Authority.
