DANSVILLE — Pay attention as you walk in Pioneer Park in Dansville – magical doors are around you.
Fairy Doors of Dansville is marking its one-year anniversary by adding new doors in downtown locations and in the trees of Pioneer Park, located within the village. Each unique door is handcrafted and often reflects the nature of its host location.
According to a press release from Jeanne Gridley, children young and old have enjoyed the “scavenger hunt” element of searching for all the little doors. Discovery Maps for finding all the doors are currently available at: North Dansville Town Hall, Mill Creek Optical, GV Credit Union, Village Clipper, Empire Reality, Dogwood Floral Company, Sugar Bowl, Star Theatre, The Hair Place, Rushbottom Heights Salon, Rubicon Graphics, Howard Hanna Reality, Tony’s Pizzeria, Dogwood Trading Company, Dansville Public Library, and Dansville ArtWorks. On May 19th maps will also be available at the new locations:Clara Barton Chapter #1 American Red Cross, Dansville Area Historical Museum, Dansville Family Dental, Thomas P. Wamp Real Estate, K’s Canine Training Service, Mike Adam Insurance, and WDNY Radio.
The new doors will be revealed on Saturday, May 19th during the Dogwood Festival, and along with the 16 existing doors, they’ll be in place indefinitely. Free craft activities for children will be offered from 12:30 to 2 pm at Dansville ArtWorks and Dogwood Trading Company.
This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts at the Livingston Arts Center, a member supported organization.
