Morgue trucks seem to abound in New York City as the rising number of dead from the coronavirus continue to climb. Outside of some hospitals there are refrigerated trailers as the death toll is now past the 1,000 mark.
Experts warned that there could be 100,000 to 240,000 deaths in the U.S. even if social distancing guidelines are maintained. America now has more than 4,000 dead from the outbreak.
New York is certainly the deadliest hot spot in the U.S., with more than 1,500 deaths statewide, most of them in New York City, which is bracing for things to get even worse in the coming weeks.
NYC has set up its huge convention center to care for patients and somewhat ease the burden on the city’s overwhelmed health system. Even the tennis center where the U.S. Open is held is being turned into a hospital.
