LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Greg McCaffrey was sworn as the new Livingston County District Attorney Monday morning by the Livingston County Clerk, after being appointed by Gov. Cuomo.
McCaffrey takes the position as the first Democratic party District Attorney in the history of Livingston County.
“It’s feels good, I’m excited to be getting to work, and I’m grateful the governor chose me,” McCaffrey said while exiting the County Clerk’s office after being sworn in. “My number one priority is the safety and security of the people of Livingston County.” He added, “I’m looking forward to getting to know each assistant District Attorney. Up to this point I’ve only known them in an advisory role.”
MCaffrey makes the third District Attorney this year, after the previously elected D.A.,Tom Moran, left when he was elected to the New York State Supreme Court.
“I’m going to bring a fresh perspective, having experience in Monroe County District Attorney’s office,” McCaffrey said.
MCaffery, who graduated from York High School, has been working for the last five years as a Defense Attorney for the Geneseo law firm of Jones and Skivington, and will now transition to being a prosecutor.
“It’s a little different being a prosecutor, but I have the experience,” McCaffrey said. “I’m looking forward to getting to know my staff and getting to work.”
McCaffery is required to appoint or reappoint every Assistant District Attorney.
