AVON – An Avon couple was arrested Thursday on Endangering and Harassment charges in the Second degree after allegedly beating their six year old with a wooden back scratcher and wet towels in what the Sheriff’s Office calls “an ongoing pattern of abuse.”
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Randy Pierson, 25, and Marianela Cutlip, 25, both of Avon, were arrested for Harassment in the Second Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child when Deputies responded to a call for assistance by the Department of Social Services (DSS) and discovered that there had been an ongoing pattern of abuse concerning a six year old child.
The punishment resulted in marks being left on the child, which were found when she went to school.
The child has been removed from the residence, and Pierson and Cutlip were arraigned in Avon Town Court. Both Pierson and Cutlip were remanded to the custody of the Sheriff and are being held in the Livingston County Jail. Pierson is being held on $500 dollars cash bail and Cutlip was remanded on $250 dollars cash bail. Both will return to Avon Town Court to answer the charges at a later date.
Handling the investigation for the Sheriff’s Office were Deputy Michael P. Dougherty and Deputy Paul Ricotta. Livingston County DSS assisted with the investigation.
