The polls have closed and the ballots have been counted. Thomas Jack Dougherty has won the Livingston County Sheriff’s Race. Congratulations to Tom in his hard fought win. I have been quite critical of Tom and his campaign in the latter stages of the race. Although I stand behind my critiques, the people have spoken and Tom has won the race. He is to become the 50th Sheriff of Livingston County. Jim Szczesniak fought a very long, hard and uphill race. He did it with honor and integrity. I wish to thank him for everything that he has done for Livingston County over the course of his 28 years in service. He has been a great co-worker, boss and most of all Friend. I thank him for that!
This race has created some large rifts in the Sheriff’s Office, friend and family relationships and within the Livingston County Community. It is now that we must all come together and move forward. The rifts will take time to heal, but heal they will. This is just a small blip in this thing we call life. We, the Livingston County community were the lucky ones in this race. We had two very determined and goal oriented people fighting to lead the best public safety agency in this State! Unfortunately, we all did not get the choice we had hoped for, but The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office will come together and continue to provide the best in law enforcement services. As we move forward into a new era with the Thomas Dougherty Administration, I wish him and everyone in the Sheriff’s Office good luck and hope for great success.
It will take Tom and Matt some time to figure out their way but they will and we will all be safe in this County. We will be safe because the men and women of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office are the ones that continue to do the job day in and day out. No not matter who is at the helm. Please join together in supporting this administration and all that they endeavor to do. It is a new and exciting time for the Sheriff’s Office.
Best of luck and God Bless Tom and Matt as we usher in this new era!
Respectfully,
Ronald L. Huff Jr.
