LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Manon Coyne, the school bus driver charged in a July 2013 incident for allegedly driving a school bus while intoxicated, reportedly with 5 children on the bus, was back in Livingston County Court today, but there were surprises. The case, on the docket Tuesday for disposition, seemed to be in the process of plea discussions, and headed for a possible resolution.
Coyne, it turns out, is a Canadian citizen. As such, conviction on a felony could conceivably lead to her deportation. That possibility complicates the conversation between lawyers in the case about charges and pleas. The information about Coyne’s citizenship seems to have come as a surprise, and the case was adjourned pending further research into the significance of the development.
