DWAI Drugs Suspect Dies at Livingston County Jail

LIVINGSTON COUNTY – A person in custody for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs passed away at the Livingston County Jail.

According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, the death occurred in the early morning hours of Nov. 3.

In the early morning hours on Nov. 3, a person in custody was brought into the booking area of the Livingston County Jail on the charges of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument.

The arrestee was held in pre-arraignment detention to be arraigned later in the daytime hours on Nov. 3.

The detainee was observed early this morning in his booking cell unresponsive and not breathing. Deputies attempted life saving measures with Livingston County EMS but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The death is under investigation but no foul play is suspected.

The State Commission of Corrections was notified and per policy will also conduct an investigation.
