Most of this group was arraigned under drug charges in County Court and were escorted to the jail.

Warrants were issued Friday in Livingston County for 13 people, followed by multiple arrests in the early morning hours on drug and related charges ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. In a press conference at the Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Tom Dougherty announced that as of 1:00 p.m., 12 were in custody with one still at large and being sought in Batavia. Drugs involved were an assortment including marijuana, cocaine, morphine, the pain-relieving drug tramidol, and MDMA, or ecstasy.
The arrests were the culmination of a year’s work by the Livingston County Drug Task Force, a cooperative partnership including the Sheriff’s Department, multiple area local Police Departments, the New York State Police, and other agencies. The Task Force was formed in late 2012. At a press conference today, District Attorney Greg McCaffrey said that 2013, which was the first full year of operation for the program, was highly successful, leading to over 200 arrests. Sheriff Dougherty said that today’s dramatic arrests would send a message to drug dealers: “Don’t come here. Livingston County is tough on drugs.” McCaffrey reinforced the message, adding that he intended to seek state prison terms in all cases.
