AVON – A fatal accident Thursday took the life of Charlene Ruliffson, 64, of Geneseo. The accident happened at the intersection of Route 39, Avon-Geneseo Road, and Papermill Rd, at about 3:30 P.M.
According to Sherrif’s deputies, Ruliffson was entrapped in her car, a silver sedan, for some time. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A white pickup truck towing a horse trailer and driven by Peter Llop, 25, apparently struck Ruliffson as she entered the northbound lane of Route 39 from the shoulder of the road.
Rt. 39. was closed for some time after the accident, which took down a telephone pole and power lines near the intersection.
The trailer was carrying a horse at the time. The horse was not injured.
Sheriff John York, Major Chris Smith, Sergeant Michael Dougherty, Investigator Thomas Dougherty, Deputy Orman and Deputy Williams were on
scene for investigation. Deputies along with the New York State Police Troopers and New York State DEC Police also assisted with traffic control. East Avon Fire Chief Ken Farrell and members of the fire department and ambulance were also on the scene.
No tickets have been issued at this point. The investigation is ongoing.
