Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Monroe County resident on a felony weapon charge after an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
On April 30, 2020 Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence on Groveland Hill Road after the homeowner found a pistol in a barn on the property. The follow up investigation alleges that 49 year old Benjamin E. Gorton now of Rochester NY moved to the residence in Groveland from Minnesota in February of 2011 and brought the pistol with him. It is further alleged that Gorton never obtained a NYS pistol permit to legally possess the pistol.
On June 18, 2020 Sheriff’s Investigator Connor Sanford arrested and charged the accused with Possession of a Firearm.
Gorton was processed by Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail an with released on an appearance ticket to return to the Town of Groveland Court at a later date as the offense did not qualify for arraignment under the NYS Justice Reform Act.
