LIVINGSTON COUNTY – Local donors are packing Catholic Charities of Livingston County with backpacks for underprivileged schoolkids headed into the school year.
According to a press release from Catholic Charities of Livingston County, their annual Back to School Backpack donation drive will be underway through August 12.
“The backpack drive helps hundreds of children throughout Livingston County who are in need of assistance with school supplies,” said Tabitha Brewster, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Livingston County. “Kids can get off on the right foot starting school with the basic supplies they need to be able to achieve.”
Needed supplies are backpacks, spiral notebooks, pens, pencils, colored pencils, composition notebooks, loose leaf paper, index cards, highlighters, crayons, calculators, folders, rulers, 3-ring binders, pencil cases, glue sticks, scissors, flash drives, and dry erase markers.
Donors can drop off donations at any of the following locations:
Mount Morris- Five Star Bank and Community Bank
Dansville- Lattimore Physical Therapy, Keybank, and Just for You (Hair Salon)
Geneseo- Lattimore Physical Therapy
Geneseo- Community Bank
Avon- Lattimore Physical Therapy
Any families with kids in need of these supplies are encouraged to come out to Al Lorenz park in Mount Morris on August 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Health and Wellness Fair hosted by Regional Primary Care Network (RPCN). Catholic Charities of Livingston County will hand out the backpacks and school supplies collected as part of the drive.
“We rely solely on donations, so it’s important for each of us to pitch in and help our children succeed,” said Brewster. “Last year, we received donations from nearly 50 donors from businesses to private donors. Way to go Livingston!”
