GENESEO – Dozens of girls could receive donated prom dresses this year from the family of much-loved and much-missed 9th grader Claire Allen.
The newly-established charity, ‘Claire’s Closet,’ plans to set up a website where up to 60 girls who go to Livingston County schools can sign up, come to Geneseo Central School on March 17 and possibly walk away with dresses.

“Claire may not have been able to attend her prom, but she was a very compassionate and community-minded person, and we’re doing this in memory of her kind and giving spirit,” said Jen Mehlenbacher, an organizer of the event.
On March 17, a $5 donation is encouraged to give attendees access to the event at Geneseo Central School from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be dresses, shoes and accessories to choose from. The donation is not required.
Claire was an accomplished musician, athlete, actor, OM-er and writer, having published in or been recognized by local and national organizations, including ‘Stone Soup’ and ‘New Moon’ magazines. She attended Odyssey of the Mind Worlds in 2015 and the Discovery Girls Leadership summit in Northern CA in 2016.
Her passing shattered the hearts of Geneseo residents. She was struck by a vehicle while running for cross country practice on Avon Geneseo Road in September 2017.
