LIVINGSTON COUNTY — One day after taking office, Greg McCaffrey, the new Cuomo appointee to Livingston County Districty Attorney, has begun making a mark.
McCaffrey, who was appointed yesterday, has already dismissed Assistant District Attorney Eric Schiener. In addition, his former client, Steven Breemes, was due in court today for a conference on a potential negotiated plea deal.
Breemes was charged with DWI, vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and other charges stemming from an incident where he allegedly struck Frances Huff, 52, who was riding her bicycle home after working at Tom Wahl’s in the winter time.
McCaffrey was Breemes’ defense attorney, and because he is now the District Attorney prosecuting his former client, the county must bring in a special prosecutor to handle the case.
As of now, representing Breemes will be Peter Skivington from McCaffrey’s former law firm.
The case has been adjourned until June 26th.
