LIVINGSTON COUNTY – Henry Lee Lewis, a now deceased serial killer, is known to have previously confessed to the murder of ‘Jane Doe,’ identified Monday as Tammy Jo Alexander, who was found dead in a Caledonia cornfield in 1979.
However, according to crimelibrary.com, Lucas is also known to have falsely confessed to murders, even to murders which were already solved.
Lucas said he was responsible for the death of a West Virginia police officer, whose death was considered a suicide, as well as an Arkansas case where he could not offer details until after state police had shown him a crime scene video they had made. It was easy, then, for him to give them whatever they needed to tie him to that murder.
He also confessed to a killing in Delaware in which there was already a suspect in custody, and that suspect eventually confessed as well.
Lucas died of heart failure in prison on March 13, 2001.
