Dansville to ‘Fill the Bus’ with Toys for Kids in Texas Hurricane Zone

DANSVILLE —  Dansville’s 2017 Fill the Bus campaign is dedicated to the children of Mendel Elementary School in Houston, Texas.

According to Dr. Paul Alioto, Dansville Superintendent, the neighborhoods around Mendel Elementary sustained heavy damage from Hurricane Harvey, costing many kids their homes and belongings.

“Most of the children who attended Mendel Elementary (K-4 school with 350 students) live in a neighborhood devastated by flood damage,” stated Dr. Paul Alioto, Dansville Superintendent. “Their homes and belongings were damaged or destroyed.”

According to Alioto, the destruction at Mendel Elementary was so severe that it is uninhabitable and will have to be demolished and  meanwhile the children are attending schools in nearby neighborhoods.

Mendel Elementary School representatives told Dansville School Officials that with the holidays right around the corner collecting age appropriate gifts for the elementary students  would brighten their holiday, the gifts will be shipped in mid-December, as the Dansville Community tries to ‘Fill the Bus’.
