DANSVILLE – This weekend marks the 135th year of the founding of the first Chapter of the American Red Cross in Dansville.
The third Annual Clara Barton Day coincides with this historic day, Aug. 20. Reenactors will represent Clara Barton between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Church Park on Clara Barton Street.
This year the Clara Barton Day committee is happy to announce that part of the entertainment that will provided is a visit from the Seneca Park Zoo, Zoomobile, Jason the juggler, and a meet and greet with Clara Barton.
There will be program in St. Paul’s church behind the actual pulpit Clara used to ask Dansville residents for support of the establishment of the 1st Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Other featured highlights of this event are a bounce house provided by the Youth Group of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a walking tour of historic Dansville, demonstrations of equipment and vehicles of the Dansville Fire and Ambulance companies and many more hands on activites for all ages.
As a tradition the Dansville Rotary Club will be sponsoring a 5k Run/Walk race themed to ‘End Polio.’ Registration for the 5K will start at 7:30 a.m. at the Danville Village Office Building. An associated Breakfast sponsored by St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will be offered at St. Paul’s on Clara Barton Street next to the starting line of the 5K race. Lunches will also be provide by several non profit organizations as well the award winning ‘Rebel Yell BBQ’ offering a very affordable menu.
