Dansville Doctor Held Responsible for Over $600,000 in Misbillings

 

Dr. James Sakr, M.D., an ear, nose, and throat doctor of Dansville, has agreed to pay $602,661 to “resolve allegations” in federal court that he misbilled Medicare and Medicaid  for services that he either didn’t perform or didn’t properly document as having been performed from Jan. 1, 2014 to Dec. 2019.  He was being prosecuted under the False Claims Act.

The announcement, made June 7 by U.S. Attorney for the Western District Trini Ross, said the claims were brought under the whistleblower provisions of the False Claims Act by Lee M. Mandel, MD, FACS, who is now based in Florida.  Mandel will receive a portion of the settlement.
