DALTON- Three families are now displaced after a fire last Wednesday in the Town of Dalton.
At approximately 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, the Sheriff’s Office 911 center received a report that the apartment building at 1744 Main Street in Dalton was on fire.
According to a press release from Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, fire departments from Nunda and Mt Morris were able to quickly bring the fire under control. However, three apartments did sustain severe smoke, fire, and water damage.
After a thorough investigation, it was determined that a nine year old boy had been playing with a lighter in Apartment No. 3, and the carpet caught fire. The fire then spread across the floor to a bed, igniting the rest of the bedroom and damaging neighboring apartments.
The name of the child was not released due to his age.
Nunda Ambulance was on site with Livingston County EMS and ALS to assist.
The investigation was carried out by Investigators Bradley Schneider and Daniel Rittenhouse, with Deputy Mike Didas, Deputy Mike Yencer, Captain Brian Applin and Captain Norm Zeh. The Livingston County Fire Coordinator’s Office assisted in the investigation.
