LIVINGSTON COUNTY – District Attorney Greg McCaffrey is offering a Mercedes-Benz for auction that was forfeited by a band of drug-robbing college students last year.
The 2006 Mercedes-Benz E500 4MATIC was used by SUNY Brockport students Joseph Hobika, Vincent Guarno, David Lasek, and Joseph Partipeloto, all of Utica, in April 2014 in an attempt to steal a stash of ecstasy from a dealer in the Village of Geneseo, and was forfeited as part of a plea deal.
“Geneseo Police did a great job with this case,” said DA McCaffrey. “The group had planned to buy ecstasy, but when they realized how much the dealer had, they tried to steal it using a BB gun.”
DA McCaffrey said that his office routinely auctions vehicles that are seized as forfeiture, and shares the earnings with county law enforcement, including the Livingston County Drug Task Force, and charity organizations.
The auction is open until next Tuesday, July 14, but the highest current bid is only $5,350.
If the bids do not climb high enough by Tuesday, the auction will be called off.
You can bid on the Mercedes-Benz here. The DA’s office is also offering a seized 1996 Toyota Camry for auction, which you can bid on here.
