GENESEO — As a long distance running enthusiast, I am pretty selective when it comes to trying another sport. If given the chance, I just run more. My fellow coworkers and I dove off the deep end Wednesday night, and attended a spin class at Cycle Craze on Main Street. Outside of my comfort zone, I knew little of what to expect.
Knowing nothing coming in, except that pain would ensue, this specific establishment caters to the newbies and veterans alike.
Our Publisher, Josh Williams, wanted to do a team building exercise stating that journalism is more then typing up stories, you need to be mentally and physically healthy as well.
The Cycle Craze team, which is Mad Dogg certified, gets to know their members. Upon arrival to a class, one of the instructors will help fit you to a spin bike. This is to make sure you don’t get injured while riding.
Each of us, brave interns included, were fitted specifically for a bike. Attention to detail was not cut short, as our pedals were even double checked to be correct.
After the set up, the class can begin. Music, sweat, and tears all attribute to what makes for an exciting and rewarding experience. A proper cool down paired with stretching is administered, to bring your body back to normal. This was a bonding experience for the ages.
The Cycle Craze team, composed of new owner Debbie Jerris, manager Jackie Kingston, and their instructors take pride in getting to know the goals of those who step through their door. Whether it be training for a marathon, general fitness, or trying something new, the team is eager to keep their riders’ goals in mind and use that going forward.
“It’s a smaller, more personalized atmosphere,” Instructor Carol Robinson said post-class. “We generally spend 15 minutes bike fitting a new member. We try and stay personal.”
Our instructor for the evening, Carol Robinson, took us through the wringer. She made sure to inject advice on proper form and hydration, and drove us along with steady encouragement.
The crew, myself included, enjoyed the experience. Not often do you find a quaint establishment to be so personalized, and so professional in what they do. To the set up, to the punctuality and execution of the class, these women certainly know what they are doing.
Cycle Craze offers a multitude of class times for those with tight schedules.
