LIMA – A Wellsville woman was arrested on Saturday while cruising through Lima while allegedly under the influence of a narcotic drug.
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Jessica Hanchett, 25, was arrested on charges relating to Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.
On August 15, 2015 approximately 4:30 p.m., Deputy Brandan Flickner of the Sheriff’s STOP DWI Unit responded to the area of Plank Road in the Town of Lima for a traffic complaint of a vehicle unsafely passing. Deputy Flickner located the vehicle in question and met with the operator, Hanchett.
During the traffic stop, the Deputy Flickner observed that Hanchett could possibly be under the influence of a drug. Hanchett submitted to a series of field sobriety tests and was ultimately arrested for Driving while Ability Impaired by Drugs.
A search of the vehicle revealed that Hanchett had a hypodermic needle inside the vehicle. Deputy Paul Ricotta and Deputy Scott Patterson assisted on scene.
Hanchett was taken to the Sheriff’s Office for further evaluation. Officer Jeff Faugh of the Dansville Police Department, who is a drug recognition expert (DRE), conducted a drug evaluation of Hanchett. It was determined that Hanchett was under the influence of a narcotic while operating the motor vehicle.
Hanchett was issued uniform traffic tickets for Driving while Ability Impaired by a Drug and Improper Passing. Hanchett was also charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument. Hanchett will appear in Lima Town Court at a later date.
