LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Livingston County Administrator Ian Coyle has officially confirmed what the GeneseeSun.com has been reporting over the past week regarding fraud allegations in the Livingston County Sheriff’s jail operation, and said that the investigation is now in the hands of the New York State Police.
“Yesterday, during our executive session, the Livingston County Sheriff presented an initial round of investigations that was presented to the District Attorney and the Livingston County Board of Supervisors,” Coyle said Thursday. “We then all agreed to forward the report on to the State police, to whatever the final outcome is derived.”
Coyle did confirm that the trigger to the investigation was an anonymous letter sent to him.
In addition, Coyle stated that the county will be hiring a forensic accounting firm that will spot check and conduct risk assessments on the other 32 departments in the county.
Also on Thursday, Coyle told channel www.13wham.com that he received the letter on November 30th. The GeneseeSun first reported the story on December 13th.
Coyle stated that the County sets aside money in their budget to deal with these types of issues.
“I am not opposed to spending our dollars and resources towards efforts that address any issues that we may have going on in the County. I’m also not against spending funds that will be more proactive in nature.” said Coyle.
Coyle also stated that in his professional career he has never had to turn over a matter to the New York State Police for investigation.
