AVON – The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Leroy woman for possessing what is believed to be cocaine and marijuana on 390 in Avon.
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Elisha Bennett, 34, was arrested for misdemeanor Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation.
Deputy Shawn Whitford, assigned to ‘Operation Safe Interstate’ stopped a car driven by Mark Schiano, 32, of Leroy for an alleged traffic infraction.
During the course of the stop it was found that Schiano’s New York State Driver’s License was revoked for a Driving While Intoxicated conviction.
Schiano was taken into custody for misdemeanor Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree, misdemeanor Unlicensed Operator and a Turn Signal Violation. Schiano is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
It was further learned through the course of the roadside traffic investigation that Bennett, a passenger in the vehicle, possessed the alleged cocaine and marijuana.
Bennett was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.
Avon Town Justice Peter Piampiano remanded Bennett to the Livingston County Jail on $500 cash or $1,000 bond.
