LIVINGSTON COUNTY — In an effort to assist local and law abiding gun owners in protecting their privacy, Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) is offering ‘Opt-Out’ forms for gun owners within the 27th Congressional District who wish to prevent their information from being made public.
New York State’s recent gun control legislation allows individual pistol permit holders a 60 day window to choose the ‘Opt-Out’ option.
“If pistol permit holders are now going to be required to fill out additional paperwork to ensure their privacy is protected, I want to make my offices a resource to help them quickly obtain and return an ‘Opt-Out’ form,” said Collins. “As a member of Congress, I am not in a position to change New York’s new law, but I can help law abiding gun owners protect their privacy rights.”
Pistol permit holders may visit Congressman Collins’ offices in Lancaster and Geneseo to either pick up a form, or drop off a completed form which will be forwarded to their County Clerk’s office.
“I want to thank Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs and Livingston County Clerk James Culberston for partnering with my office to make this process as easy as possible for our responsible, law abiding gun owners.
“We are grateful for the Congressman’s help in spreading the word about this new privacy right in the NY Safe Act and making ‘opt-out’ forms available at his district offices,” said Erie County Clerk Jacobs. “The Congressman’s support with this effort will be a great help in our efforts to inform the over 70,000 pistol permit holders in Erie County of this new right they have to protect their privacy.”
Collins’ Lancaster office is located at 2813 Wehrle Drive, Suite 13, Williamsville, NY 14221. The Geneseo office is located at 75 Main Street, Suite C in the Village.
