A Conesus NY resident was arrested on felony DWI charges after leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash.
On February 8, 2020 Livingston County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a convenient store in the Town of Conesus for the report of a motor vehicle crash. The responding Deputies found that a vehicle had been struck in the parking lot and that the suspect vehicle had left the scene of the incident. However, a license plate number of the suspect vehicle was provided.
Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the address of the suspect vehicle and found the vehicle and operator there. The operator of the suspect vehicle was identified as Robert J. Edwards, age 61 from Conesus.
Deputy Michael Donals, who is assigned to the Sheriff’s Office STOP DWI Unit, conducted a DWI investigation which included the performance of standardized field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of the investigation, Edwards was taken into custody for DWI. Edwards was then transported to the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters in Geneseo where Deputy Heather Benjamin of the Sheriff’s Office Jail Division administered a breathalyzer test which revealed a blood alcohol content of .16%.
Edwards was arrested and charged with felony Driving While Intoxicated and violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law including Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Motor Vehicle Accident.
The DWI charge was a felony as Edwards had a previous DWI related conviction in May of 2010.
Deputy Devin Ricks and Deputy Lazlo Babocsi assisted with the investigation.
