Conesus – Born January 8, 1958. Beloved Folk Music Icon, Joe Dady, returned to his Creator, Saturday evening May 18, 2019 with his family by his side. Joe was regarded by many as one of Rochester’s most versatile and passionate musicians. Self-taught on an array of instruments, Joe and his brother John performed a unique blend of Irish and American Folk Music regionally and abroad for more than 4 decades. Joe loved to teach and shared his skills and love of music with scores of students through the years.
Joe’s passing leaves a deep hole in the heart of Rochester’s Music Community and he will be sadly missed, but the seeds of his music will bear fruit for generations to come. Joe loved his home in Hemlock Hills, where he spent the last 2 decades of his life and felt closest to God in nature’s splendor. Though he had no children of his own Joe was a father figure and mentor to so many young people. He was a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly.
Joe was the youngest of 6 children, raised in the City’s Northwest Maplewood Neighborhood. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Evelyn Dady and his nephew, John William Dady. He is survived by his 5 siblings, William Hogan Dady, Suzanne (James) Meagher, Lynne (Thomas) Kinsella, James (Mary) Dady and John (Carol) Dady; 11 nieces and nephews; 11 grandnieces and grandnephews and legions of fans and friends. The family extends deepest appreciation to the staff of the Wilmot Cancer Center and Strong Memorial Hospital 4-2800 for their extremely compassionate care.
