At age 95, Gwen passed peacefully on February 7, 2021 at her residence at Morgan Estates in Geneseo, NY. She was born on March 15, 1925 in Union, Missouri to the late Charles and Ora Blanche Welsh. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Richard C. Messner, daughter Jane Noyes, grandsons Jason Noyes and Phillip Noyes, and sister Charlene Cox. Survived by children; Richard (Marcia) Messner Jr of Norman, OK, Catharine (James) Miles of FL, and Charles (Joanne) Messner of Livonia; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, son-in-law Keith (Laura) Noyes, and several nieces & nephews.
Gwen grew up in Grant City, Missouri graduating from high school and later joining the United States Coast Guard during WWII. She served from 1944-1946 as part of the USCG SPARS. Gwen met her husband Richard in the service and they were married in Honolulu on June 13th 1946. Together they owned and operated Messner Buick Pontiac in Geneseo, NY.
She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother. Gwen could often be found on the golf course as she was an avid golfer. She also enjoyed scrabble, playing bridge, knitting, and gardening.
