GENESEO – The Geneseo community is mourning the deaths of two SUNY Geneseo students and a Geneseo resident in the incident at 18 Wadsworth Street which rocked the campus and Village on Sunday.
Members of the Village and college are sharing their thoughts and prayers for the three families involved. Many are coming forward on social media to celebrate the lives of students Kelsey Annese, 21, of Webster, NY, and Matthew Hutchinson, 24, of Vancouver, British Columbia.
“So sad.My heart goes out to the families,” posted Paul Borodin to Facebook. “Kelsey had such a bright future. She was such a wonderful girl.”
Others shared their feelings about the loss and recovery process. SUNY Geneseo issued a letter to students and staff offering their condolences to the families and counseling services for anyone who needs them.
“It’s a really weird feeling to recognize someone you had a class with, interacted with on a weekly basis, and completed coursework with and realize they’re dead,” posted Kristen Stumpf to Facebook. “I was not close to Kelsey but we were paired as a group in one of my psych classes. Never did I think anything like this could’ve happened to someone like her. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for the families of these students and I give my sincere condolences. This is such a sad time for the campus and the community. SUNY Geneseo says that they are in the planning stages of a remembrance event that will bring together the college community to support each other in this time of great sadness. Anyone who would like to be involved in planning this remembrance can contact Chip Matthews at chip.matthews@geneseo.edu.
