LIVONIA— Community Bank N.A. is hosting a chicken barbecue and raffle at Autumn in the Village to support the Livonia Hook & Ladder Fire Department.
Community Bank N.A. part-time teller Julie Brown initiated the fundraiser after her husband, Jack, suffered a massive heart attack in 2015. Now missing the left side of his heart, Jack must wear a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) with wires attached to his heart to keep him alive.
“Raising enough money to purchase Doppler devices would mean the world to my family and the other LVAD patients in Livingston County,” said Brown. “This is truly a life-saving device.”
The funds raised will help the department purchase Doppler radar devices for the community.
The Doppler would allow Livonia Hook & Ladder Fire Department to measure blood flow in people, like Jack, who use LVAD devices. Since LVAD patients do not have a pulse, the device allows emergency technicians to get proper readings and ensure the device is operating correctly.
Brown hopes to raise enough money to purchase two or three Doppler devices for the county, spreading them out between various ambulance services. Each device costs approximately $1,500.
“The whole Livonia branch was more than willing to jump in and help Julie with this fundraiser,” said Community Bank N.A. Livonia Branch Manager Ronda Howard. “She is a part of our family and we all want the very best care for Jack. I am so proud of the work she has done and am looking forward to seeing her achieve her goal.”
Community Bank N.A.’s tent will be located behind the Livonia branch at Autumn in the Village. Chicken barbecue tickets will be available for $12 and raffle tickets for $20 per arm’s length. Raffle prizes include a variety of items such as a private wine tasting and tour at Eagle Crest Winery.
