DANSVILLE – An inspiring assembly of family and friends to beloved legendary Judge Ron Cicoria, who sadly lost his battle with cancer in January 7, 2015, have gathered a Relay for Life team in his memory, devoted to further combating cancer and supporting families going through the battle against the disease.
A few months ago, ‘Judge Ron’s’ daughter Amy became the rallying point for the team, affectionately named the ‘RAC Cavalry,’ who will run and walk at the Relay for Life event starting at noon on June 13. She says that although it is a challenge to organize so much on top of running a business and raising three kids, the experience and what it means to the community is more than worth it.
“Anything I can do to be proactive in the fight against cancer is always worth it,” said Amy Cicoria. “When you lose someone like this as many families know it is a vacuum of grief, so to do something positive and hopeful is very gratifying.”
The Relay for Life ceremony is still being organized and events planned for noon until midnight on June 13. According to Mackenzie Howe, Relay for Life Community Manager for the American Cancer Society, the event will kick off with a brief parade at noon through downtown Dansville, and will include a luminaria ceremony.
The event is free and open to everyone. There will be activities and entertainment throughout the day centered around the Birthday Theme in celebration of Relay for Life’s 30th anniversary.
Judge Ron was a passionate rider and horseman as well as an icon of the legal community who would just as soon sit down for a beer on Main Street as take the bench at the county courthouse, hence the team name ‘Ron A. Cicoria Cavalry.’
