SPRINGWATER — A Wayland man has been charged with a Christmas Day burglary in which he allegedly stole six long guns.
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Matthew Bartlett, 45, was charged with Burglary 2nd, Grand Larceny 4th, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Sale of a Weapon, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. Bartlett is additionally accused of selling 2 of the guns.
Bartlett was arraigned in Springwater Town Court by Judge Haywood and was remanded to the Livingston County Jail on no bail. Handling the investigation was Investigator Dan Rittenhouse, Investigator Gene Chichester, Sgt. Michael Dougherty, Deputy Michael Williams, and Deputy Caleb Cutting.
According to Sheriff Dougherty the department recently investigated two burglaries in the Town of Springwater and one in the Town of Livonia all involving stolen guns. Sheriff Dougherty stated would like to remind citizens to safeguard their property, lock doors, use a gun safe, and to report any suspicious activity in your community.
