AVON – The Town of Avon formally recognized local charity leader and director Christine Ryan as Senior Citizen of the Year for 2015 at their regular meeting on Thursday, May 29.
Ryan is the President of the Board of Directors at the Avon Free Library, coordinator of the Avon Food Pantry in partnership with Foodlink, directing donations, volunteers and monthly distribution of food to 25 to 30 households, and even more during the holidays.
“Christine is never one to draw attention to herself, but continually dedicates many hours and is extremely devoted to her community,” said Town Supervisor David LeFeber. “Avon is very fortunate to have her kind, dedicated and selfless spirit and level of commitment, and the Town is proud to offer her name for recognition.”
Ryan’s work at the Avon Free Library included seeing the library through a change in directors. Rebecca Budinger-Mulhearn took up the position of library director about 1 1/2 years ago.
Supervisor LeFeber added that Ryan also takes exceptional care of her family, hosting family dinners of up to 30 people and caring for her mother.
