BOSTON — As Jessica Chichester was enjoying her post race burger with her ‘Dashing Whippets’ teammates the shock of her accomplishment at the 2018 Boston Marathon was still setting in.
Chichester, an alumnus of Mount Morris Central School was the 5th place female runner at the 2018 Boston Marathon running it in 2:45:23 improving upon her previous personal record by approximately 8 minutes. We caught up to Chichester hours after her groundbreaking performance.
“I really didn’t know how well I finished until about 15 minutes after the race,” said Chichester, who now lives in Brooklyn. “I was cold. I was so shivering. I couldn’t even comprehend what I was looking at on my phone when my mom started texting me.”
At the most prestigious marathon in the world, elite runners start 15 minutes ahead of the other runners, so the delayed start for Chichester put her in a different moment at the finish line.
As the other elite runner were getting treatments and conducting interviews, the Mount Morris Blue Devil was looking for a cab back to the hotel.
