LIVINGSTON COUNTY – All active Livingston County Sheriff’s Office K9 members are now outfitted with lifesaving protective vests.
According to a press release from Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, the vests come courtesy of a donation by ‘Vested Interest in K9’s, INC, a charity based in East Taunton, Masachussetts.
“We thank Vested Interest for this great donation to our K9 unit,” said Sergeant Chad Draper, Supervisor for the Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit. “Our K9 partners put their lives on the line every day just like a Deputy does. Being able to properly protect them with these vests will keep them safer.”
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.
The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged officers.
Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9’s, Inc. provided over 1,546 protective vests, in 49 states, through private and corporate donations, at a cost of over 1.4 million dollars. All vests are custom made in the USA by Armor Express in Central Lake, MI.
