DANSVILLE – Wednesday night’s accident on Rte. 63 caused the death of a Wayland resident.
According to a press release from New York State Police Troop E Commander Major Richard Allen, Shawn Martinez, 44, was struck by another vehicle while she was refueling her pickup on the southbound shoulder of Rte. 63 near the Steuben County line.
On Dec. 6 at approximately 6:43 p.m., State Police in Geneseo responded to a serious call for a pedestrian struck on Rte. 63 in the town of North Dansville.
The preliminary investigation finds that a southbound vehicle ran out of gas and became disabled and was parked partially in the southbound lane without any hazard lights on. An adult female, Martinez, was putting gasoline in her vehicle when she was struck by a southbound vehicle.
State Police said that Martinez was pronounced dead at Noyes Hospital.
A second pedestrian from the disabled vehicle, Joshua Clark, 28, from Wayland, was not injured.
The operator of the southbound vehicle, Payton Rider, 20, from North Cohocton, was not injured.
The State Police Collison Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. No criminal charges have been filed in this incident.
