NYLON – Neighbors of Patrice Miller, the woman whose body was found on fire in Caledonia say that her suspected murderers, Aykut Ozkaynak, and Mary Neverett, were living with her at the time she went missing.
According to our news partner News10NBC, Neverett, 42, moved in with Miller at an apartment complex in Gates about 10 months ago. Shortly thereafter her boyfriend, Ozkaynak, 35, also moved in.
“[Miller] seemed like a very kind woman, she kept to herself,” said neighbor Sharon Gigliotti. “I’m not sure if she was very healthy. She would struggle coming out with her dog. But this whole thing is just horrible and everybody is shocked by it.”
Gigliotti didn’t know Patrice Miller that well, but they would often meet in the backyard with their dogs and talk about their love of their pets. Gigliotti says she only has positive memories of Miller and is finding it hard to believe what has happened to her.
“I’m so grateful that they were caught,” says Gigliotti. “You don’t want anybody else to get hurt. But my prayers go out to Patrice and to her family and friends.”
New York State Police arrested Ozkaynak and Neverett after an intense investigation from the night of July 4 to July 7, assisted by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and Gates Police Department. Both are charged with felony Murder in the Second Degree and felony Tampering with Physical Evidence and held without bail at the Livingston County Jail.
State Police have scheduled a press conference on the investigation at 11 a.m. Friday.
