LeRoy — The Cal-Mum Lady Raiders went to overtime with the LeRoy Lady Knights on Wednesday nigh,t but were unable to break away, and played to a 0-0 tie.
“Once we settled down, I felt we kind of took control of the game,” Cal-Mum head coach Chad Schalk said
Indeed, the Lady Raiders controlled the ball for much of the first half and even had three shots on goal, including one that hit the post, that either just missed or were saved by LeRoy junior goalie Kayla Heimlich.
The second half featured much of the same for Cal-Mum. The Lady Raiders narrowly missed on opportunities off of two corner kicks in the 46th minute, and junior forward Rachel Hume had one shot go just wide and another saved by Heimlich later in the half.
In the 61st minute, a LeRoy forward was finally able to break away from the Raider defense for a breakaway one-on-one opportunity against goalie Kenna Kosinski, but before she was able to get a shot off the play was blown dead for a controversial offside call.
The Knights had two well-placed shots out of set-pieces in the overtime, but Kosinski was able to snag them both to preserve the tie for her Lady Raiders.
Cal-Mum (8-1-2) does not play again until next Tuesday, October 8th, at Hornell.
