With the coordination of family members Arthur Gibson and Karen Vitale, a joint effort through the VA program and social media was made to fund raise for the instillation of said headstones. Reaching over half of their required amount in less than a week, the instillation is set to occur this coming Saturday on Ossian Hill Road.
“The whole process has been heartwarming.” said Karen Vitale. “We’ve been holding Luce Family Reunions for, we think, 96 years in Ossian but the gatherings tend to be small because people are scattered around the country (and Japan). It’s been exciting to see family come together and honor our uncles.”
The 10 a.m ceremony at Wood Cemetery will hold in attendance the Chief of Staff of NYS Assemblyman Bill Nojay, along with Congressman Chris Collins’ field representative.
Civil War reenactors will be present at the ceremony, along with federal and local officials.
News Media are welcomed to attend the culmination of the efforts at the event this weekend.
