MOUNT MORRIS – A former employee of the Mount Morris Central School District was arrested on three felony charges for allegedly exploiting her access to the school’s payroll system to write herself $1699.62 in checks.
According to Mount Morris Police Officer Melody Moore, Mount Morris Police received a complaint from the school district on May 13 alleging that Jennifer Brooks, who was in charge of payroll, had paid herself more than her share.
“The school noticed some discrepancies in Jennifer Brooks’ pay and did a pay audit on her in April,” said Officer Moore. “Jennifer had initiated payments to herself and used the pay and accounting system to show the checks as voided within the school’s system.”
Brooks was arrested and charged on June 1 with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree, and Tampering with Public Records, and released on her own recognizance (ROR). She is due back in Mount Morris Town Court on June 10.
