LIMA – A New York State Trooper shot a young man who is thought to have attacked and injured him Wednesday evening.
According to a press release from the NYS Police, Tyshawn Jones, 19, of Brooklyn, NY, was shot during the altercation.
On April 13, 2016, a NYS Trooper assigned to the Lima Station stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Rtes. 5 and 20 in the Town of Lima.
The driver allegedly exited his vehicle and physically attacked the Trooper, striking him repeatedly in his face and causing a concussion, a fractured orbital eye socket and several contusions.
The Trooper discharged his duty weapon three times, striking Jones in the abdomen.
Both Jones and the Trooper were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. The Trooper has since been released and Jones is still being treated.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Livingston County District Attorney’s Office, Lima and Livonia Ambulance assisted on scene.
The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
