LeRoy’s first goal came after just seven minutes of play, when LeRoy junior Ethan Witkowski slipped one past the Geneseo keeper to bring the score to 1-0. The Blue Devils tied things up when Geneseo junior Miguel Valencia scored a goal, assisted by his teammate junior Danny Cannon.
“I’m happy with the way the team responded to the early goal and I feel like we outplayed them in the first half,” said Geneseo coach Chris Masters. “We just need to relax a bit, possess the ball more and try to make better passes.”
The second half belonged to LeRoy. With just under 18 minutes remaining, LeRoy senior Adrian Aughenbaugh put one in the back of the net to give the Knights a one goal cushion. Aughenbaugh went on to score a second goal with 9 minutes remaining, bringing the score to 3-1 and putting the game out of reach for the Knights.
LeRoy is now 2-0 while Geneseo is 0-1. Geneseo’s next match is at home Thursday, September 11 at 6:30p.m. against Cal-Mum.
