GENESEO — Geneseo’s boys’ soccer team picked up a big win Thursday night with a 4-0 victory over Letchworth at home.
Geneseo scored two goals in the first half – both by junior attacker Mo Carlon – and two more in the second half – both from junior midfielder Bryan Rollins.
Head coach Chris Masters said he was impressed with his team after the shutout win.
“I thought it was a good offensive performance for us. We’ve been struggling to score goals,” Masters said. “The game plan was to shoot often and I thought we did a good job of that and we sent a lot of good through balls to our forwards and had a lot of good opportunities off of those and a good defensive effort from the whole team.”
Masters also spoke about his team’s shutout, which featured net-minding work as a new face for the Blue Devils.
“It was actually (Jake Vattimo’s) first start in goal ever. Our starting keeper got a concussion yesterday, so he’s out for a few games,” he said. “I tapped Jake today, to see if he could do it, and we warmed him up and worked out with him a little this afternoon and he had a nice save on the breakaway and I think he did a really good job.”
Masters admitted he did not know what kind of a performance he was going to get out of his keeper.
“I didn’t know what to expect, I just hoped that he wasn’t too nervous and I hoped that we could play good in front of him so he didn’t have to make too many saves, and I thought we did a good job of that.”
Masters said that Vattimo, a junior, would start in net on Saturday and be re-evaluated on Monday going forward.
Geneseo (3-1) will face their next test Saturday on the road against Pavilion at 6:30. Letchworth (1-5) will also play on Saturday against York at home at 11.
