HONEOYE — Livonia sophomore attackman Jonathan Mohnkern scored four of his eight goals in the second quarter to launch the Bulldogs to a 14-2 win over Avon on Saturday.
Although Livonia got ahead with a 2-0 lead early in the game, it was clear that neither team was able to get in a consistent rhythm. The cold, raining weather could have been a factor in each team’s sloppy play early in the game. But Mohnkern exploded with four straight goals to open the second quarter, and the Braves were unable to overcome the offensive firepower that Livonia proved to possess.
“We don’t have a lot of game experience, so getting the ball moving and being more patient when we had the opportunities is what got us the goals after the first quarter,” Livonia head coach Brett Wood said.
Avon senior middie Nicholas LiMuti notched the Braves’ first goal of the game moments into the third quarter to make the score 7-1 and give Avon fans some hope of a comeback. But Livonia junior middie Zach Bishopp scored one of his three goals less than a minute later, which started another run of six straight goals by the Bulldogs, putting the game out of reach.
Livonia (1-2) will play against Bloomfield-Honeoye on Monday, while Avon (0-1) will take on McQuaid Jesuit on Thursday.
