In 15 minutes, the York Golden Knights (15-4) will battle the Caledonia-Mumford Red Raiders (17-2) in the Section V Class C2 Semi-final matchup. The winner heads to the Blue Cross Arena on Saturday to meet the Lyons Lions.
At the 5:30 mark of the first quarter, Luke Logsdon is already making his presence known with 6 points in the early going, York leads Cal-Mum 10-7.
With a mintue left in the first quarter, York and Cal-Mum are tied at 10. Kyle Kline for the Red Raiders has two long 3-pointers.
At the end of the first quarter, York leads Cal-Mum 15-12. Andrew Short, of the Golden Knights, hit a 3-pointer to end the quarter on a high note. Logsdon leads the Golden Knights with 8 points, while Kline has 6 points for the Red Raiders.
With 5:08 to go in the quarter, the Golden Knights have extended out to a four point lead, 21-17. York’s point guard Tyler Shutts has gotten in on the action, scoring 4 points.
With 2:30 left before halftime, the Red Raiders trail by one, 24-23. Kline has been huge on the offensive end, scoring 10 points.
At the half, Cal-Mum leads York 26-24. Both squads have played each other tough, as this is the third matchup of the two teams this season. Leading scorers for the Golden Knights are Logsdon with 8 points and Short with 7. For the Red Raiders, it’s Kline with 10 points and point guard Steve Gaffney with 6 points.
With 4:49 to go in the third, the semifinal battle remains tough, as the Red Raiders lead 31-30. Both teams have struggled offensively, but both defensives have been strong. The Red Raiders have held both Logsdon and Short in check during the early part of the quarter.
With 3:14 left in the 3rd quarter, the Knights trail 36-31. Kline has scored the last 5 points for the Red Raiders, giving him 15 for the game.
With 1:13 left in the 3rd quarter, the Knights are battling back, trailing 38-37. Golden Knights fprward Nick Curry has 8 points.
At the end of the 3rd quarter, The Red Raiders lead 40-39. Both teams have been exchanging baskets answering each other on good opportunities.
With 5:26 remaining in the game, the Golden Knights trail 44-39. The Red Raiders have been sparked by 4 straight points from Gaffney.
With 2:12 remaining in the game, Shutts and Logsdon brought their team back to have a 3 point lead. The Red Raiders’ Kline hits a big 3 to tie it up at 47.
With 14.9 seconds left Shutts stole the ball and York will have the last shot, with the game tied at 49.
Nick Curry missed a 12 foot jump shot to win the game for the Knights. We are headed to overtime.
With 1:37 remaining Neil Craft hits a 3 pointer to put the Knights up 54-53.
With 23.5 seconds remaining, Shutts pulls down the rebound after a missed Red Raiders’ shot. York has the ball, and the lead 54-53.
After clutch free throws by Logsdon and Shutts, York defeats Cal-Mum 58-54 to advance to the Class C2 finals. They’ll face Lyons on Saturday at the Blue Cross Arena.
